Classes

We have a Moms & Babies / Toddler section and a Pre-school which have 3 classes:

  1. A Moms & Babies time for mothers with their babies aged 4 months to 15 months, once a week.
  2. A Moms & Tots time for mothers with their toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years, once a week.
  3. Our first class is for children 1 & 2 years – the Sparrows.
  4. Our second class is for children 3 & 4 years – the Swallows.
  5. Our third class is for children 5 & 6 years – the Starlings.

Since we understand that God is central to every aspect of living, we have given Him His rightful place at the center of the curriculum. The following scripture is foundational in this regard:

“…and how from childhood you have been acquitted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:15, 16 (ESV)

Moms & Tots class

Time: 09:00 – 11.00

Monday or Tuesday
We learn, laugh and love while having lots of fun. There are many educational toys to play with, while moms have some quality bonding time with their toddlers. Thereafter, the children paint and have a sensory play time. Then we go into a structured ring-time where the toddlers learn about themselves and their immediate environment.

The children also develop:

  • fine motor and gross motor skills;
  • musicality through action songs and music;
  • the ability to concentrate for longer periods of time;
  • the inclination to see another person, other than a parent, as an authority figure;
  • the ability to share and play alongside another child;
  • the capacity to listen to an entire story.
  • The mommies and toddlers get to socialise at the end of the class. The children learn to play alongside each other, outside, if the weather permits.

We look forward to having you!

Sparrows | Ages 1 – 2

This small group, of no more than 12 children, is in the care of a teacher and an assistant. The stage between a toddler’s first and second birthday, is one of immense changes. Children develop rapidly both physically and mentally during this stage of life. Therefore, we endeavour to play an important role in facilitating this. Play, is the most important way of learning, and we give lots of time in this class for constructive play to take place. Children acquire the essential life skills they will need for a lifetime of learning, including sharing, listening, social interaction and problem solving through play. Both indoor and outdoor play is closely guided and monitored.

We strive to create a loving, caring and nurturing atmosphere in this class, which will help the child feel secure and safe and grow in their individual strengths and character.

Songs and rhymes are an integral part of every day, and there is always time for stories.

Swallows (Grade RR) Ages 3 – 4

Their simple, but stimulating program has many concrete themes within the child’s experience that are used to explain the beauty and love of God. This facilitates growth in an understanding of who God is, how special they are to God and how God is at the center of every aspect of life.

A loving, nurturing environment is crucial for these little ones. They need to feel secure and safe in order to explore this new world away from home. They learn how to be part of a group, to share toys and to wait their turn. Kindness towards others and an acceptance of one another is emphasized.
They enjoy regular art activities, and “bake and make” once a week. Each day, they participate in either a music ring or a movement ring. The weekly theme, with related activities, allows the children to explore the world around them and to learn about God and His wonderful creation. Songs and rhymes are an integral part of every day, and there is always time for stories.

Indoor and out-of-doors free play serves to balance the program, allowing for structured times to be interspersed with opportunities for free exploration within safe boundaries.

Starlings / Ages 5 – 6 (Grade RR & R)

We continue to adhere to the basic methodology as outlined for the younger group, but extend the activities to be more appropriate for the slightly older child.

We aim to develop the whole child, with five different areas that are given equal emphasis – being spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual and physical. This is achieved through a balanced daily program that allows for exploration, experimentation and learning through play and fun activities. Every term we make time for excursions, which provide opportunity for hands-on learning.

We work alongside our parents in the discipling and training up of these children in the ways of the Lord. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Our carefully prepared curriculum for the Grade R class gives the child an advantage to excel in later years of school life! The children will be confident and more than prepared to step into our Grade 1 class, or any Grade 1 class, after finishing their Grade R, at Twittering Trees.

Charlotte Mason is famous, among many other things, for her motto, “education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life”.

We believe the only means available for the education of a child, are the child’s natural environment, training in good habits and exposure to living ideas and concepts.

“Education is an atmosphere”: we do not create an artificial environment, but use opportunities that already exist in the child’s natural environment.  The child learns best from real things in the real world.

“Education is a discipline”: the child needs to be trained in the exercise of good habits and self-control.

“Education is a life”: children need intellectual, moral and physical sustenance.  A properly educated mind needs ideas of all kinds, and so our curriculum is rich and varied.
